Ho Chi Minh City is expected to allocate approximately VND26.337 trillion for compensation, support and resettlement to facilitate site clearance for Metro Line 6, an important component of the city’s planned rail network connecting Tan Son Nhat International Airport with Long Thanh International Airport.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Agriculture and Environment is seeking feedback on the feasibility study for the compensation, support and resettlement project for the Metro Line 6 Inner Ring Road corridor.
The proposed route runs from Phu Huu through Ba Queo, Phu Lam Roundabout and back to Phu Huu, with the first phase covering the section between Tan Son Nhat International Airport and Phu Huu.
The Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR) has submitted the proposal. The project is classified as a Group A public investment project, funded by the city budget, with MAUR serving as the investor. Implementation of the compensation and resettlement component is expected to be completed by 2027.
The preliminary study covers approximately 23 kilometers across 15 wards. Around 953,105 square meters of land are expected to be affected, involving approximately 2,501 cases. Of these, around 2,256 cases are expected to require full site clearance, with approximately 2,256 resettlement units planned.
The total estimated cost for compensation, support and resettlement is approximately VND26.337 trillion.
Relevant departments and agencies have been asked to provide feedback before September 18.
The Department of Planning and Architecture is expected to review the proposed alignment and its compatibility with existing planning frameworks, including the 2021–2030 master plan with a vision to 2050 and the adjusted master plan to 2040 with a vision to 2060.
The Department of Finance will assess the procedures applicable to Group A public investment projects, investment authority, special mechanisms for metro development, as well as the city’s budget capacity and capital allocation and disbursement plans for 2026–2027.
Meanwhile, the Department of Education and Training is expected to comment on support policies related to vocational training, job conversion and employment opportunities for affected residents.
Tan Son Nhat International Airport authorities will review the proposed connection and project boundaries, particularly in relation to aviation safety, security and airport operations, as well as affected land, assets and infrastructure.
Metro Line 6 is planned to begin at Ba Queo Station (ST01), near the Tan Ky Tan Quy–Truong Chinh intersection, where it will connect with Metro Line 2, linking Ben Thanh and Tham Luong.
The route is expected to extend to Phu Huu, where it will connect with the Thu Thiem–Long Thanh railway. This would create an important transport corridor between Tan Son Nhat International Airport and Long Thanh International Airport.
The preliminary total investment for the entire Metro Line 6 is estimated at approximately VND86 trillion, including site clearance, construction and equipment costs.
MAUR Director Phan Cong Bang has requested that feasibility studies and FEED designs for three metro lines be completed by October, with project approvals targeted for November.
The city also aims to commence priority depot-related components at Binh Trieu, Hiep Binh Phuoc and Phu Chanh by the end of 2026, while major construction works are targeted to begin around April 30, 2027.
The proposed allocation of more than VND26 trillion for compensation, support and resettlement is therefore an important step in preparing the site clearance required for Metro Line 6 and advancing the city’s broader urban rail development plans.
