HO CHI MINH CITY APPROVES NEARLY VND 3 TRILLION INTERCHANGE LINKING BEN LUC – LONG THANH EXPRESSWAY TO CAN GIO
06/17/2026
Ho Chi Minh City has officially approved the construction of an interchange connecting Rung Sac Road with the Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway, with a total investment of nearly VND 3 trillion funded by the city budget. The project is considered a key transportation infrastructure development that will strengthen regional connectivity and create new growth momentum for Can Gio District in the years ahead. According to the approved plan, the interchange will be built in a diamond configuration, providing direct access between the Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway and Rung Sac Road. The project includes elevated roadways, underpasses, roundabouts, frontage roads, as well as integrated intelligent transportation systems, lighting, landscaping, and drainage infrastructure.
Enhancing Regional Connectivity
Once completed, the interchange will establish a seamless transportation corridor linking Ho Chi Minh City's Ring Road 3, the Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway, and Rung Sac Road. This will enable travelers from both the Mekong Delta and the Southeast region to reach Can Gio directly without passing through the city center.
The project is expected to ease traffic congestion, reduce accident risks, improve freight transportation efficiency, and strengthen connectivity between industrial zones, urban developments, and eco-tourism destinations throughout the area.
In addition, the new transportation axis will provide residents of Binh Khanh, An Thoi Dong, Tam Thon Hiep, Ly Nhon, and Long Hoa communes with faster access to modern infrastructure networks and key economic centers.
Completing Southern Gateway Infrastructure
The project comes as several major transportation developments are progressing simultaneously. Ho Chi Minh City's Ring Road 3 is scheduled for completion by the end of this year, while the nearly 58-kilometer Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway is expected to become fully operational by September 2026.
Notably, Phuoc Khanh Bridge, the final critical component of the expressway, has reached approximately 80% completion and is currently being accelerated to meet the targeted opening schedule.
The synchronized completion of these infrastructure projects will create a modern regional transportation network connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the Southeast region and the Mekong Delta, while also expanding development opportunities toward the sea.
A New Growth Driver for Can Gio
Within Ho Chi Minh City's long-term development strategy, Can Gio has been identified as one of the city's future growth poles. In recent years, the district has attracted a series of large-scale investments in transportation, urban development, logistics, and tourism.
Key projects include the Can Gio Coastal Urban Tourism Development, the International Transshipment Port, the Ben Thanh – Can Gio High-Speed Railway, Can Gio Bridge, and the proposed sea-crossing route connecting Can Gio with Vung Tau.
The approval of the Rung Sac Road – Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway interchange further strengthens the district's infrastructure framework, laying the foundation for Can Gio's transformation into Ho Chi Minh City's new maritime gateway while unlocking significant opportunities for tourism, commerce, logistics, and real estate development in the future.
