HO CHI MINH CITY DETERMINED TO COMMENCE 10 KEY PROJECTS BEFORE JULY 2
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Ho Chi Minh City officially being honored with the name of President Ho Chi Minh, the city is accelerating legal procedures, mobilizing resources, and ensuring all necessary conditions are met to commence a series of large-scale projects before July 2.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, the 10 key projects scheduled for groundbreaking have a combined estimated investment of approximately VND 381.3 trillion. Spanning transportation infrastructure, urban renewal, environmental improvement, and social housing, these projects are expected to lay the foundation for the city's next phase of development.
New Momentum for Infrastructure and Urban Growth
Among the most notable projects is the Thu Thiem – Long Thanh Railway, a 41.8-kilometer line with an estimated investment of VND 175 trillion. Beyond connecting the city center to Long Thanh International Airport, the railway is expected to become a strategic transportation corridor for the Southern Key Economic Region.
Another landmark project is the sea-crossing bridge connecting Can Gio with the former Ba Ria – Vung Tau area. With an estimated investment of VND 92.663 trillion, the project is expected to strengthen regional connectivity while unlocking opportunities for marine economy, tourism, and logistics development.
The Ho Tram – Long Thanh International Airport Urban Expressway, stretching 42 kilometers and featuring six expressway lanes along with parallel service roads, is also slated for commencement. Once completed, it will significantly reduce travel time between the Ho Tram tourism hub and Long Thanh International Airport, creating a strong growth driver for the Southeast region.
At the same time, Ho Chi Minh City will move forward with the Cat Lai – Phu Huu Port Connector Road, linking the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway and Ring Road 3. The project is expected to ease traffic congestion and enhance logistics connectivity in the eastern gateway area.
Two major bridge projects Thu Thiem 4 Bridge and Binh Tien Bridge Road are also included in the list of groundbreaking projects, aiming to improve regional connectivity, reduce congestion, and complete the city's transportation network.
Creating New Urban Spaces
In addition to transportation infrastructure, the city is investing heavily in urban renewal projects designed to enhance public spaces and improve quality of life.
Among them, the Ben Nha Rong – Khanh Hoi Cultural Park and Saigon River Green Space Development Project stands out with an estimated investment of VND 30 trillion. The project covers five core development zones, including cultural and historical spaces, riverside parks, public plazas, pedestrian promenades, and various cultural and artistic facilities.
Notably, the Ben Nha Rong – Khanh Hoi area will see the expansion of the Ho Chi Minh Museum precinct, accompanied by new green landscapes, cultural facilities, sports amenities, and public services. A series of supporting infrastructure projects, including the expansion of Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, the construction of the Hoang Dieu underpass, and new bridge connections, will also be implemented simultaneously.
Meanwhile, in the Bach Dang Wharf area, the city plans to place part of Ton Duc Thang Street underground to expand public riverfront space and create a new urban landmark along the Saigon River.
Investing in Environmental Sustainability and Social Housing
Beyond transportation and urban beautification, Ho Chi Minh City continues to prioritize environmental projects aimed at improving living standards.
The Binh Duong Water Environment Improvement Project, with a total investment exceeding VND 7.2 trillion, will develop modern wastewater collection and treatment systems serving tens of thousands of households in Tan Uyen, Thuan An, and Di An. The project is expected to improve water quality, protect local ecosystems, and strengthen urban infrastructure.
In the social housing sector, the city plans to commence two major developments in Dinh Hoa and Viet Sing, with a combined investment of nearly VND 4.816 trillion. These projects will provide thousands of affordable housing units, helping meet the growing housing demand of workers and low-income residents.
Continuing a 50-Year Journey of Urban Transformation
Over the past five decades, Ho Chi Minh City has delivered numerous transformative urban renewal projects that have reshaped its landscape. Major canal rehabilitation initiatives such as Nhieu Loc – Thi Nghe Canal, Tan Hoa – Lo Gom Canal, Tau Hu – Ben Nghe Canal, Tham Luong – Ben Cat – Nuoc Len Canal, and Xuyen Tam Canal have turned heavily polluted areas into green, modern, and vibrant urban spaces.
These projects have not only improved environmental conditions and reduced flooding but have also created valuable public spaces, enhanced urban aesthetics, and stimulated socio-economic development in surrounding neighborhoods.
Behind the revival of every canal lies the large-scale relocation and resettlement of tens of thousands of households living along waterways. More than infrastructure projects, these initiatives represent a long-term commitment to improving living standards and creating sustainable development opportunities for urban communities.
Building on these achievements, Ho Chi Minh City has set a target of relocating approximately 40,000 houses situated along canals and waterways during the 2026–2030 period, further advancing its vision of becoming a green, modern, and livable city.
With the determination to commence 10 key projects before July 2, Ho Chi Minh City is not only commemorating a historic milestone the 50th anniversary of bearing the name of President Ho Chi Minh but also reaffirming its ambition to become a modern, dynamic, and sustainable metropolitan hub of regional significance.
