HO CHI MINH CITY TARGETS COMPLETION OF ROUTE PLANS FOR THREE KEY METRO PROJECTS IN AUGUST 2026

Project Documents to Be Completed in the Coming Months

Under the current schedule, documents related to compensation and site clearance for the three projects are expected to be completed by mid-September 2026 and submitted for approval in early October.

The feasibility studies (FS) and Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) packages are also targeted for completion in October. These documents will serve as the basis for reviewing and approving the investment proposals in November 2026.

For construction, MAUR plans to prioritize several works at the project depots toward the end of 2026. The main construction packages for all three metro lines are targeted for simultaneous groundbreaking on April 30, 2027.

Alongside the schedule, technical solutions and consultant selection are also being evaluated. Technical agencies are comparing U-shaped girders and box girders based on factors including cost, architectural considerations, noise levels and the ability to enhance domestic capacity in design and manufacturing.

MAUR also plans to prioritize domestic consulting capabilities to better control costs and improve schedule flexibility. Construction norms, cost estimates and material specifications are being reviewed before the bidding process begins.

Three Metro Lines to Span Approximately 90km

Under the city's urban railway network plan, the three projects are expected to strengthen connections between central Ho Chi Minh City and surrounding urban areas, including Binh Duong.

Binh Duong Metro Line 1 will be approximately 32km long and entirely elevated, with 19 stations. Its depot is planned in the Phu Chanh area.

Binh Duong Metro Line 2 will stretch approximately 35.1km, with 24 stations and a combination of elevated and underground sections. The depot is planned for the Hiep Binh Phuoc area, now part of Hiep Binh Ward.

Metro Line 6, Phase 1, connecting Tan Son Nhat International Airport with Phu Huu, will be approximately 23km long with 17 stations. Around 19km of the line is planned to run underground, with the depot located in Binh Trieu.

Once completed, Metro Line 6 is expected to improve connections between Tan Son Nhat International Airport and the city's metro network. It will also strengthen eastward transport links and support connectivity with the Long Thanh International Airport area.

The simultaneous advancement of these three projects is expected to expand the city's mass public transport network, improve regional connectivity and provide a foundation for transit-oriented urban development in Ho Chi Minh City.
